Congratulations, you’re pregnant during one of the most magical times of the year, Christmas. Between holiday parties, family gatherings, and the holiday rush, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed instead of overjoyed (and let’s also add uncomfortable, because pregnancy isn’t always the easiest on our bodies). However, the holiday season can still be a special time with some thoughtful planning and self-care. Here are some helpful tips to keep you comfortable, joyful, and sane as you navigate your pregnancy journey during the holidays.
I was just shy of 4.5 months of pregnancy with my second little back in 2019. With Christmas being my favorite time of the year, I remember feeling so anxious about how I’d manage keeping my toddler happy attending all of the family and friend events while being almost halfway through pregnancy.
Let me tell you, I learned a few lessons that year from learning to accept that I probably won’t be able to juggle everything to prioritizing the smaller, more impactful moments, and more. Those are the sort of things you can expect to read more about today.

1. Limit the Holiday Stress
Pregnant moms hear me loud and clear, the holidays do NOT need to be a stressful time. While you might want to be the ‘hostess with the mostess’, wear all of the cutest holiday outfits, and attend every Christmas party — you’ve got to take it slow and limit the overwhelm. Here are a few things that might help:
Delegate, Delegate, Delegate: While the holiday rush can feel overwhelming, asking for help is one of the most effective methods to keep stress manageable. Delegate specific tasks, like wrapping presents, grocery shopping, or even hosting duties. Accepting a helping hand from family members or friends without guilt is a good idea—remember, they’re likely eager to pitch in and support you during this special time, why not let them?
Mind Your Mental Health: Caring for your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical well-being. Try journaling to reflect on your pregnancy during the holidays—write about what excites you about this time of year or what you’re most looking forward to in the new year. Pregnancy yoga, guided breathing exercises, or even 10 minutes of meditation each morning can help reduce stress and bring peace of mind during busy holiday weeks.
Don’t Overthink the Perfect Holiday: It’s easy to feel pressured to make every moment magical, but perfection isn’t the goal. Keep Your Body Hydrated & Nourished: During this busy time of year, it’s crucial to prioritize your energy levels and overall well-being. While it might be easy to feast on delicious foods and slack off on sipping your water, you can keep a large water bottle handy, and pack pregnancy-friendly snacks like fresh fruit, nuts, or granola bars to stave off hunger during long days. For holiday meals, focus on smaller portions of pregnancy-safe foods and steer clear of unpasteurized cheese, deli meats, and any holiday treats that could contain uncooked raw eggs. If that toxic friend or family member will be attending and you just can’t stand to be around it, it’s ok to protect your peace and not go. Listen to your body. Take regular breaks and rest when needed. Whether it’s stepping away for a warm bath, catching a few minutes of meditation, or leaving a holiday party early, prioritizing your peace of mind is one of the most important things you can do.

Foodie Tips for Holiday Feasts: Holiday parties are brimming with delicious food, but as an expectant mom, some precautions are necessary. Plan Ahead of Time: If you’re planning to travel during the holidays, be sure to finalize your plans long before the day approaches. One of the most stressful things for any person to deal with, let alone expectant mothers, is trying to figure out plane tickets, itineraries, hotel stays, and more. So, save the hassle and get it finished up as soon as you can before your travel date arrives.
Travel Safely: If you have a high-risk pregnancy, make sure you discuss with your healthcare provider if it’s safe for you to travel. In general, most pregnant women in the third trimester are deemed “safe to travel” up until the 35 to 36-week mark for healthy pregnancies if traveling by air. In general, be mindful of your symptoms and don’t travel too far from home in the event you could go into labor. While we never want to miss a chance to catch up with loved ones, pregnancy poses a unique circumstance that’s worth being careful about.
