Bringing your newborn baby home is a time of much joy, but it often means that your personal space, particularly the bedroom, takes a backseat to the needs of your little one. Once your baby has moved out of your room, it’s the perfect time for a quick and simple home bedroom refresh to reclaim your sanctuary and make it feel like, well, yours again.
Transforming your space doesn’t require extravagant or costly updates; with a few thoughtful and budget-friendly changes, you can breathe new life into your bedroom and create a peaceful retreat that reflects your style and needs.

Whether it’s through subtle decor changes, smart furniture rearrangements, or clever storage solutions, you’ll find that even small updates can have a big impact. Reclaim your space, and let your bedroom once again be a place of rest, relaxation, and comfort.
15 Budget-Friendly Ideas for a Home Bedroom Refresh After the Newborn Stage
Below are some of my favorite ways new parents can really embrace the stage after their baby moves into their room, by giving yours a little refresh! And if you know anything about me, you know I don’t like to spend a bunch of money on things like this, so I promise they’ll be budget-friendly.
1. Fresh Coat of Paint
One of the easiest ways to give your home bedroom a new look is by applying a fresh coat of paint. While not overly pricey, it will require a little bit of your time.
Opt for neutral tones or soft pastels (swiss coffee is one of my favorite interior paints to really brighten up the room) to create a peaceful space. For a bolder update, consider painting an accent wall in a rich, moody shade instead.
You can even apply a fun wallpaper to accent the wall. This quick update can make a huge difference in the overall feel of your bedroom without much extra cost. You can see below how my husband and I added this faux wood accent wall in our old master bedroom.
2. Refresh Your Bedding
Update your master bedroom with one of the easiest hacks: a new sheet set and a duvet cover. The only thing I’d suggest is to choose high-quality, soft fabrics that complement your room’s color scheme.
Adding new bedding with decorative pillows can instantly give your bed—and the entire room—a fresh look and feel. Plus, new high-quality bedding is so relaxing, I love that feel of sleeping on some fresh new sheets.
3. Update Photos
If you’re a family who loves displaying those precious family photos in your bedroom, it’s time you updated those photos! It’s an easy way to bring fresh energy into the room. Replace older pictures with recent family photos, or add some new artwork that reflects your current style and vibe. A simple update like this can have the biggest impact in reclaiming your space.

4. Add a Hatch Restore
If sound machines help babies sleep restfully, why can’t they help parents? Yup, you need a Hatch Restore. With soothing sleep sounds to help you sleep to the popular sunrise alarm to help you wake gently — this sleep tool won’t change your room’s look, but it will give your room an instant makeover full of restful sleep.
And if you’re not happy with it, send it back thanks to their 30-night bedside trial.
5. Add a Pop of Color with Throw Pillows
Maybe your room is already the most zen place on the planet, but you need some easy ideas to brighten it up. Throw pillows are one of the easiest ways to add pops of color to brighten up your home bedroom. Mix and match accent pillows in various shapes and sizes to give your bed a fresh look. This small change can make the room feel updated, and refreshing, while giving it an effortless splash of color.
6. Replace Your Blinds/Curtains
If you’ve had the same stained/torn curtains up over the last few years in your room, it’s time to make the room look refreshed by tossing them into the trash and getting a new set.
I personally love blackout curtains since they help me sleep by darkening the room, but if you have old blinds that are an eyesore, try swapping them out for a simple new set too.
7. New Bed Frame
If your bed frame has seen better days, consider upgrading it. A new bed frame doesn’t have to break the bank; look for affordable options that offer a bold statement or sleek lines. A storage bed is another great idea for adding functionality without cluttering the room. If you’re crafty, give it a little paint and new hardware!
8. Add Relaxing Scents
Introduce relaxing scents into your bedroom to create a calming atmosphere. Essential oils, scented candles, or diffusers can infuse your space with soothing aromas like lavender or eucalyptus.
This is a perfect way to make your bedroom feel like a serene retreat. One of my favorite scents is the apple blossom + vanilla diffuser from Target, it smells amazing and I love waking up to the scent.
9. Give the Room A Deep Clean
Sometimes, a deep clean can do wonders for refreshing your bedroom. It’s a simple way to clean up and organize any clutter while dusting, vacuuming, and wiping down surfaces can make the room feel brand new. Don’t forget to clean under the bed, behind furniture, and in those often-neglected corners to truly revitalize the space.
10. Add a Bold Statement with Vibrant Artwork
Consider adding vibrant artwork or molding frames to a single wall to create a focal point in your bedroom. This is a great way to inject personality into your space and create a visual impact without needing to redecorate the entire room.
We once stayed at an Air BnB and fell in love with a piece of wall art. We ended up ordering the art for our room and it’s made the space a truly relaxing place to relax and sleep.
11. Update Your Lighting
Lighting can completely change the mood of a room. We recently installed dimmable fixtures in our bedroom which really helps set the mood from folding laundry to time to lay down and chill. You can choose lights that add warmth or cool down the overall feel of the room, it’s a simple way to control the ambiance of your space.
12. Add Some Faux Plants (or Real Ones if You Have a Green Thumb)
If you don’t have a green thumb, faux plants are a perfect way to add greenery without the maintenance of watering and trying to keep them, you know, alive. You can place them on your bedside table, dresser, or in corners of the room to give the space a fresh, lively feel.
If you’re a plant lady who can keep them all alive, have at it adding some of your favorite potted plants into the room. I also love the look of these boho-style Macrame Plant Hangers, they’re just gorgeous!
You can take a peek at the candles and greenery I put up on our little bedroom shelf, but I’m not loving it anymore, so I might update it soon!
13. Add a Mirror
Adding mirrors to a room can completely refresh the space by enhancing natural light and creating a sense of openness. If you have the space, you can strategically place it so that it gives the illusion of a larger space, which for those in a smaller bedroom can feel a little more relaxing.
You may also enjoy adding a mirror to be able to check your OOTD (outfit of the day) before you hop into mom mode. You’d be surprised how empowering it feels when you’re rockin’ your favorite outfit!
14. Use a Humidifier
Adding a humidifier won’t necessarily add much to the overall visual aesthetic of the room, but It can enhance the atmosphere. If you didn’t already know (but I’m sure you do), a humidifier adds moisture to the air, preventing dryness that can irritate the skin, throat, and respiratory system.
It’s especially helpful in dry climates or during winter when indoor air becomes dry. So if you’re tired of waking up with that annoying tickle in your throat paired with dry lips, try adding a high-quality humidifier to your bedroom space.
15. Add Finishing Touches with Decorative Accessories
Don’t forget the finishing touches like accent chairs, decorative pillows, an ottoman, or throw blankets. These small details can bring the entire room together, making it feel complete and thoughtfully decorated.
Without a doubt, you’re on the path to having a primary bedroom that incorporates all of your favorite colors, scents, and overall vibe. You deserve nothing more than to feel relaxed and refreshed in your room now that baby is in their own space. So, which of the above home bedroom refresh tips can you see yourself incorporating?
